trend blend: floral print + chunky heels

With the arrival of summer comes the inevitable arrival of floral sundresses in all shapes, sizes, and shades. But instead of joining the herd of flowery frocks, why not rock the pattern elsewhere. Floral print shoes are the perfect way to wear the classis summer trend with a twist.

For an extra twist, try combining the floral trend with the latest trend in footwear: chunky heels. Thick heels are a throwback to the boho, carefree seventies, and they’re also a great way to ground the diaphanous, sheer fabrics of the season. As an added benefit, chunky heels are much sturdier and easier to navigate than pin-thin stiletto heels. While stilettos will forever remain a sexy style, chunky heels are sexy in their own way, and they’ve come a long way from the goth platform Mary Janes of the nineties. Plus, the fun flowery prints make this style even flirtier.

Here’s some highlights:

ASOS “Ablaze” super high wedge, $84; Michael Antonia “Carina” orange print, $75; Ego and Greed “Bowler ESP”, $100; Enigma “Floral Oxford bootie”, $50

ASOS “Alpha Wedge” ankle boots, $66; Jeffrey Campbell “Rumble Boot” in floral, $145; Forever 21 “floral bow platform sandals”, $25; Air “floral print crossovers”, $40

On myself: chambray button-down from J. Crew, BCBGeneration beige shorts, blue and pink necklace (gift), leopard print loafers from Delia’s (I could wear these every single day), and hot pink lipstick to top it off
